Enrolment Centre

We Need You

Still in its development stage, MASH depends largely on the goodwill and voluntary input of committed and caring people.

Register to be a MASH volunteer!

If you’re interested in becoming an advocate, mentor or volunteer, we would love to hear from you. Our enrolment process is staggered (or suspended for periods) so don’t be disappointed if we can't get you started right away!

IMPORTANT: All our advocates and mentors are subject to a DBS background check. This is because they may be working with vulnerable young people and adults.

Mentors & Advocates

PLEASE NOTE: All mentor and advocate roles are open to both males and females. mentors and advocates will not necessarily need to be of African Caribbean origin.

GET IN TOUCH

Important Note: This service is still under redevelopment, so responses may be delayed at the moment!

The Peer Programme was developed as part of the Time to Change 300 Voices Project and supports African / Caribbean men and women with lived experience of mental health problems in Birmingham to build resilience and confidence to aid recovery.

Anyone interested in joining as an advocate or mentor will need to note these important points:

  • Complete an ‘Expression of Interest (EOI) form using our paper / Word version or complete it quickly and easily online.
  • Attend an informal interview and discussion about the advocate and mentor roles.
  • Successful candidates will need to complete our mentor training which includes a two-day session, and later by attending a two-day Mental Health First Aid course. There are no charges for these courses.
  • All our advocates and mentors are subject to a DBS background check. This is because they will be working with vulnerable young people and adults.
  • Ongoing support will be offered to all volunteers by the programme co-ordinator, through regular bi-monthly group sessions and by mutual agreement amongst advocates and mentors themselves.
